UK Radon Gas Map:
Find High-Risk Areas
Discover radon risk levels across the UK. Search by region or postcode to find if your area is affected by elevated radon gas concentrations.
UK Radon-Affected Regions
Cornwall
Cornwall has some of the highest radon levels in the UK, with granite bedrock releasing significant radon gas.
Devon
Devon, particularly Dartmoor and surrounding areas, has elevated radon levels due to granite geology.
Derbyshire
The Peak District and limestone areas of Derbyshire show significant radon concentrations.
Somerset
Parts of Somerset, especially Mendip Hills, have moderate to high radon levels.
Northamptonshire
Certain areas of Northamptonshire have moderate radon levels requiring monitoring.
Oxfordshire
Some parts of Oxfordshire show moderate radon concentrations.
Yorkshire
Certain areas of Yorkshire, particularly the Dales, have elevated radon levels.
Cumbria
Lake District and surrounding areas show moderate radon concentrations.
Lincolnshire
Parts of Lincolnshire have moderate radon levels.
Scotland (Aberdeen, Grampian)
Granite geology in Aberdeen and Grampian regions results in elevated radon levels.

Understanding the UK Radon Map
How to interpret radon risk levels and take action
Why Some Areas Have Higher Radon Levels
Radon gas originates from the natural decay of uranium in rocks and soil. Areas with granite, limestone, and other uranium-bearing rocks tend to have higher radon levels. The UK's geology varies significantly, creating distinct high-risk zones.
Public Health England estimates that approximately 5% of UK homes exceed the action level of 200 Bq/m³, but in high-risk areas like Cornwall, this can rise to over 30% of properties.
What the Percentages Mean
The percentage shown for each region indicates the proportion of homes where radon levels exceed the UK action level of 200 Bq/m³. This doesn't mean other homes have zero radon—all properties have some radon—but levels below 200 Bq/m³ are considered lower risk.
- Very High (25%+): More than 1 in 4 homes exceed action level
- High (10-25%): Between 1 in 10 and 1 in 4 homes exceed action level
- Medium (5-10%): Between 1 in 20 and 1 in 10 homes exceed action level
Important: Individual Property Testing Required
Even if you live in a low-risk area, your specific property could still have elevated radon levels. The only way to know your home's radon level is through professional testing.
Neighbouring homes can have vastly different radon levels due to variations in construction, ventilation, and ground conditions. We strongly recommend testing regardless of your area's risk classification.
