Start with the property, not assumptions
Gather any existing radon report and check the official area information. A property’s age, appearance or renovation history cannot establish its indoor radon concentration. Ask a seller for actual measurement records rather than accepting a general statement that the area is low risk.
Separate a map report from a measurement
A radon search report estimates the chance of an elevated concentration. A detector test measures conditions inside the building over a period of time. Keep the two documents separate: they answer different questions.
Keep a useful property record
Record test dates, room locations, occupancy changes and the laboratory’s interpretation. If a system is installed, keep the installation specification, maintenance instructions and retest result together. This is more useful to a future owner than an unsupported statement that a home is radon-free.
Choose one sensible next step
If no measurement exists and testing is recommended, arrange the test before choosing equipment. If you already have an elevated result, share the complete report with a specialist and ask for a written explanation of the proposed remedy.
