
The basic principle
A small collection point below the floor connects to pipework and, in an active system, a fan. The system draws ground air away before it enters the occupied building and discharges that air outside. It is designed for gas control, rather than collecting water like a drainage sump.
Why the building matters
Ground conditions, foundation walls and separate floor sections affect how widely suction can act. One extraction point is not automatically sufficient for every layout. The contractor should assess the building before specifying the design.
What to agree before installation
Discuss pipe routing, the outside discharge point, fan noise and electrical supply. Ask how the work will be finished and how to recognise whether the system is operating. Get maintenance and warranty details in writing.
Check the actual outcome
A system’s appearance does not establish its effect on indoor radon. Arrange the recommended follow-up measurement and keep the results. If the concentration remains elevated, discuss adjustments or additional work with the specialist.
